6 ways to manage Stress

Whether it's prepping for an important test, trying to work out what career you'd like to pursue, or dealing with having accidentally sent a questionable Snapchat to everybody in your contacts, stress affects all of us at some point or another in our lives, and it's not always an easy thing to manage. If you're in desperate need of some tips and advice then you've come to the right place, because we have just that, right here...

Work up a sweat

Exercise produces endorphins - the body's natural pain killer - and improves sleep, which in turn reduces stress. So get that sweat band on and hit the gym... or your bedroom. Either will do.

Breathe Better

Learning special techniques, such as breathing deeply or imagining a serene scene, can help ease stressful thoughts. YouTube has plenty of videos that might help to calm you, featuring the sounds of the ocean, or the comforting noise of the jungle, or the overwhelming chatter of a crowded room - whatever works for you, really. So press play, close your eyes, take a deep breath and relaaax.

Practice makes perfect

Rehearse situations that cause you stress. For example, you could take a public speaking course if talking in front of large groups makes you anxious, or if the thought of not knowing what career you want to develop, gaining work experience is an easy way of finding out. Breakdown

If if feels like you have too many tasks to deal with, list them all on a piece of paper and then break the list down in terms of priority. Start off by getting the more crucial tasks out of the way. And no, 'Catch up on that new Netflix show' should not be a top priority. Unless you're looking to get a job at Netflix.

Step Away

There's nothing wrong with standing up, saying "I'm outta here" and walking away from a situation that stresses you out. Take some time to listen to your favourite music, draw, write or chat to a friend. Anything that eases away that stress.

Discuss

Talk to someone you trust about what's stressing you out. As the old saying goes - a problem shared is a problem halved.
