How To Survive GCSE Results Day

What happens if results day is not shaping up how you hoped?

Don’t Panic

It doesn’t matter what your results are – there will always be options open to you. If you are panicking then find somewhere quiet to calm down and then plan your next move. Approaching things with a clear mind is better than rushing into a quick decision that you might regret later.

Don’t focus on other people’s situations

It can be easy to get caught up in the moment and focus on other people’s success or failure. It’s important not to get caught up in other people’s dramas when you might need to focus on your own needs. Get yourself sorted first before getting involved in your friend’s decisions.

Don’t feel like you can’t change your mind

Just because you’ve got the results you need doesn’t mean you can’t change your mind. Maybe you’ve had second thoughts about staying on at school and fancy giving college a try? Or maybe you want to get out of education and into an apprenticeship scheme instead. Take stock of your situation and seek advice from those you trust before planning your next steps.

Don’t feel you can't ask for help

Whether it’s your parents, your teachers or your friends, there are people around you that can help you get through this and make the big decisions. Teachers and lecturers can help with practical advice about things like re-sits, and parents and friends can help with the bigger picture stuff. Just remember that it’s your life and your choice what happens next.

Don’t forget to celebrate

Even if you haven’t achieved everything you hoped for there will always be things to celebrate. Don’t compare yourself to others and focus on what you have achieved, rather than what you haven’t.
